Keys in full screen and the gallery

Vixlo has two ways of filling the screen with the pass, and they answer the keyboard differently. Full screen (Space) is one photograph, still, and you can still decide on it. The gallery (⌘7) is the pass played like a screensaver, and nothing you press at it decides anything.

Full screen

Press Space on the cull page, choose View ▸ Full Screen, or choose Full screen from the ⋯ menu. The frame you are on fills the screen. One line at the bottom-left corner gives the file name, the frame's state and the way back, such as DSCF7601.JPG · take · Space or Escape returns; it fades a few seconds after the pointer last moved, and comes back when you move the pointer. A counter at the bottom-right says where you are in the pass, such as 149 / 166.

KeyWhat it does
← →Previous and next frame, through the pass as it stood when you pressed Space. They go round: → on the last frame brings you to the first
T H R UTake, Hold, Reject, Clear on the frame in front of you — exactly as in Single, auto-advance included
SpaceBack to the view you came from
EscThe same way out

Over Compare the full screen is still one photograph, the frame at the left, and the keys decide about that frame. H holds it and leaves the other frame of a proposed pair alone, and ↩, ⇧↩ and ⇧H, which are Compare's, decide nothing about the pair. Space or Esc takes the full screen down and Compare is back on screen, with the pair's keys live again.

The arrows step only the full screen's own copy of the pass; they do not move the cull. Leave after only looking, and you are back on the frame you opened full screen on. A decision does move the cull, so if you decided a frame here you come back on the frame that decision left you on.

The four decision keys are read from your own map, so a changed key works here too. The digits, Z, E, G and the rest do nothing here: full screen is one photograph and a decision about it. C shows nothing either, but it does flip the gallery's captions switch, so the next gallery you play opens with captions the other way round.

By mouse, a single click anywhere on the photograph leaves full screen, and so does View ▸ Leave Full Screen. A double-click does not leave: it zooms between fit and the focus check's magnification at the point you clicked. ⌘-scroll or a pinch zooms about the pointer, and a drag moves around a zoomed photograph.

Press ⌘7, or choose View ▸ Gallery, and the current pass plays on the whole screen. Every culling key is off behind it — a T or an R pressed at the gallery marks nothing — and the menu items that act on the cull are greyed out, View ▸ Leave Gallery apart. These stay available: File ▸ Export…, File ▸ Share…, File ▸ Close Library (⇧⌘W), Vixlo ▸ Vixlo Account…, Vixlo ▸ Sign Out of Vixlo (when you are signed in) and Help ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts, which opens the Your keys panel in the cull window behind the gallery.

KeyWhat it does
EscLeave; the library is exactly as you left it
SpacePause and resume
← →Step back and on — a photograph at a time in Drift and Frame
1Drift — one photograph at a time, drifting slowly into the next
2Wall — a wall of tiles, one giving way at a time
3Strip — two rows of frames gliding past each other
4Frame — one photograph, still, on a matte with its caption
CCaptions on or off
⌘7Leave

The gallery's keys are not part of the map and cannot be changed. Move the pointer and a bar appears at the foot, each button wearing its key — Drift 1, Wall 2, Strip 3, Frame 4, Pause (Play while paused) Space, Captions C and Leave Esc. The preset and the captions switch are remembered across launches. The gallery itself is described on Showing a library as a gallery.

tip

Space does opposite things in the two: it leaves full screen, because there is nothing to pause there, and it pauses the gallery, because that is what Space does in every player.
