Every key on the cull page
This is the reference: every key the cull page answers in 0.1, in the Vixlo preset, set out in the held map's five groups — Deciding, Looking, Moving, Proposals, In a stack — so you can read it beside the map. If you have changed a key, read yours in the app — hold ? — and use this page for what each key does.
The menu bar's own shortcuts and the mouse gestures are on Menu-bar shortcuts and gestures. The keys in the five tables do nothing while a sheet is open or the cursor is in a text field, and a letter with ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥ held does nothing unless that combination is listed. There is one exception to the text-field rule: six ⌘ chords are also menu shortcuts, and they reach the menu even with the cursor in the search field or a keyword. They are ⇧⌘E, ⌘Z, ⇧⌘Z, ⌘↩, ⌥⌘↩ and ⇧⌘↩, and each works whenever its menu item is enabled. The menu greys an item out while a sheet is open or the gallery plays, and also when there is nothing for it to do (Redo until something is undone, the Accepts with nothing to accept, Confirm bets with no bet waiting). ⌘Z in a text field undoes the last culling decision, not your typing.
Deciding
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
T | Take |
R | Reject, to the bin |
H | Hold — while Compare is on screen with a proposed pair in it, hold both |
U | Clear to undecided |
N | A note on this decision |
⇧T | Additional Take — only inside an open stack; see In a stack |
0 – 5 | Rate, or clear the rating |
⌘Z | Undo the last decision |
⇧⌘Z | Redo |
What each one does in detail is on Deciding by key.
Looking
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
Z tapped | Focus check: from fit to twice the fitted size, about the centre; the corner label shows 2.0×, measured against the fitted photograph, not the file's pixels. Tap again to go back to fit. It does nothing you can see in Compare |
Z held | The same zoom for as long as you hold the key; when you let go the photograph goes back to fit, even if you were zoomed in before you pressed. In Frames, held over a frame, a loupe under the pointer |
E | The reasons card for the frame you are on; a second press closes it |
Space | The photograph full screen — see Keys in full screen and the gallery |
C | Compare, on the frame you are on; a toggle, so in Compare it shows Single again. From Frames it leaves the contact sheet for Compare. See Keys in Compare |
⇧↩ | Keep the other one — in Compare only, on a proposed pair; see A proposed pair |
⇧H | Hold both — in Compare only, on a proposed pair |
↩ | Open or close the stack the frame is in, or confirm what is proposed — see Proposals |
Esc | Back out, one layer at a time — see below |
If the app misses the moment you let go of a held Z, the zoom stays on. A tap of Z puts the photograph back at fit.
? is not in the map, so it has no row here or on the held map: tap it for the Your keys panel, hold it for the whole map. See Reading your keys.
Moving
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
G | Frames, the grid. It toggles: G opens Frames, G again returns to Single, or to Compare if you left it there |
[ | The side panel: its body folds down to the rail, and back |
A | Auto-advance on or off |
← → | Previous and next frame in the pass |
⌘K | Open search |
⇧⌘E | Edit takes — leaves the cull for the edit page. A menu-bar shortcut, so it cannot be changed |
F | Show or hide the filmstrip — changes nothing on screen in 0.1; see below |
F is bound, and the Keyboard sheet lists it in Moving around as Show or hide the filmstrip, but the strip under the photograph is always shown and the key changes nothing on screen. It is not on the held map. You can give the key to something else; see Changing a key.
Proposals
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
⌘↩ | Accept proposals — for the screen you are looking at: the frame alone in Single; in Compare, the pair when a proposed pair is on screen and otherwise the frame alone; the frame's import group on the contact sheet. See What Accept proposals writes |
⌥⌘↩ | Accept all proposals on the card |
⇧⌘↩ | Confirm bets — every frame your taste is betting on, across the whole card, whichever pass you are in |
↩ on its own confirms too. On a frame in no stack that carries its own proposal, it confirms that proposal; inside an open stack with something to accept, it accepts the stack. On a frame in a stack it opens the stack instead. View ▸ Proposals (⇧⌘P) turns proposals on or off for this library. Every Accept is one undo step.
In a stack
While a stack is open in the Stack Resolver:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
← → | Nothing, so they can never step you out of the stack into the pass behind it |
⇧T | Additional Take — a second frame from an open stack, without losing the first. In an open stack it does what T does: Take the focused frame, so a stack can end with more than one Take |
↩ | Accept the stack as proposed when there is something to accept; otherwise close the stack |
Esc | Close the stack |
Under its own heading the held map shows only the arrows and Esc; it files ⇧T and ↩ under Deciding and Looking. Click a frame in the resolver's strip to move between the stack's frames, or Prev Moment and Next Moment to go to the stack before or after.
What Esc closes
Esc is not in the map and cannot be changed. It closes the nearest open thing, in this order, one press each: the Your keys panel, the account panel, a menu, the reasons card, the criteria pane, the Stack Resolver, then Compare, which it turns into Single, and last of all Frames, back to whichever of Single or Compare you left. In Single with nothing open it does nothing. See Getting back to Single.
While a sheet is open, Esc belongs to the sheet: the Keyboard sheet and the note card close on it; the others want a button or a click.
