Subscribing and what it costs

Vixlo is one plan, paid a year or a month at a time, and the trial is already the whole app, so subscribing changes nothing about what you can do; it keeps it going. This page is for the moment you decide to pay: what it costs, where the card goes, and what you see afterwards on the website and on the Mac.

The two plans

There is no tier that holds a feature back; the only choice is how often you are billed.

PlanLaunch offer, until 16 March 2027List price, charged at renewals
A year at a time$150 a year (50% off)$300 a year
A month at a time$17.50 a month (30% off)$25 a month

The offer lasts through the whole of 16 March 2027, a day that ends at midnight UTC. Subscribe by then and you pay the launch price for your first period; after that a subscription renews at the list price. The account page says this under its buttons: After the launch offer a subscription renews at $300 a year or $25 a month.

Prices are shown and charged in one of nine currencies: US dollar, Australian dollar, Euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, Indian rupee, New Zealand dollar, Japanese yen and Singapore dollar. Each currency has its own fixed, round price, set by Vixlo and not converted from dollars on the page. Every price is before tax: Any tax due is worked out by Stripe at checkout. Tax is added on top, so the amount charged can be higher than the price shown. If your currency is not one of the nine, Stripe's checkout page may offer its own conversion.

Subscribing

  1. Open the account page on the website. From the app, Subscribe in the Settings window's Account section, the Account page button on the notice under the title bar, or Manage account… in the rail's account popover all land there.
  2. In the Plan panel, choose your currency under Currency if the one shown is not yours. The two buttons reprice themselves.
  3. Press Subscribe — $150 a year, or the quieter or $17.50 a month beside it.
  4. Stripe's own checkout page opens. Enter the card there. The website never shows a card field of its own, and the app never asks for one. The launch price is already applied; there is no code to type.
  5. Pay. The browser comes back to the account page.

The Plan panel on a trial, with the currency switch and the two Subscribe buttons

Back on the account page, a green notice reads You're subscribed. Your Mac picks this up at its next check, or straight away with Settings → Refresh. If Stripe is still confirming, it reads Payment received. Stripe is confirming your subscription — refresh in a few seconds and your plan appears here. instead; press Refresh a moment later. Leave Stripe's checkout page by its back link without paying, and the notice says Checkout closed. Nothing was charged, and your plan is unchanged.

What the account page says once you are subscribed

The Plan pill reads Subscribed, and the line names the renewal: $300 a year, renewing 12 January 2027. The amount is the list price the next renewal charges, in the currency you paid in; the first period was charged at the launch price. The Subscribe buttons are gone, and Manage subscription and Cancel subscription sit beside Refresh.

The Plan panel once subscribed, with Manage subscription, Cancel subscription and Refresh

Manage subscription opens Stripe's own page for your subscription and comes back to the account page when you are done. Card updates and invoices live there.

On the Mac

The app notices at its next check, which it makes on its own about once a day, or straight away when you press Refresh in the Settings window. Then the trial's notice disappears (and, on the launch screen, the chip), the Account section in the Settings window reads Subscribed, renews 12 Jan 2027. beside the word Subscribed, and the rail's account popover reads Active. A subscription shows nothing else anywhere: no notice, no chip, nothing to dismiss.

When a payment fails

If Stripe cannot take a renewal, the account page's pill turns to Payment failed with a line such as We could not take the last payment. Vixlo keeps working until 12 February 2027. — for a monthly renewal that failed on 12 January 2027. The date is the end of the period the failed payment was for, not a date you have paid up to: Stripe moves the period on when it asks for the renewal, paid or not.

The Plan panel then leads with Update card, with no price on it, followed by Manage subscription, Cancel subscription and Refresh. There is no Subscribe button and no currency switch while a payment is failing: you already have a subscription, and what it needs is a card that works, not a second subscription.

  1. Press Update card. Stripe's own card form opens for the subscription you already have.
  2. Enter the card and save it. The browser comes back to the account page, which says Your card is updated. Stripe retries the payment on its own; press Refresh in a minute.
  3. A minute later, press Refresh. Once Stripe has taken the payment, the notice reads Your card is updated. The payment went through, and your subscription carries on., and the pill is back to Subscribed.

The Plan panel after a failed payment

On the Mac, the notice under the title bar turns red: Payment failed, and under it Update your card on your account page. Vixlo keeps working until 14 Mar 2027. The Mac's date is a month after the website's, because the app counts thirty days of grace past the end of the period. On the launch screen the title bar's chip reads Past due; the Settings window says the same beside the word Past due, and its first button, Update card, opens the account page.

The red notice under the title bar after a failed payment

Everything works until the Mac's date while the payment stays failed. If that date passes without a successful payment, the app goes read-only on that date, whether or not the Mac is online. It looks at the date at launch, on waking, once a day and on Refresh, so an app left open carries on until the next of those. The Settings window then reads The licence could not be renewed. Sign in again, or check the subscription on the account page. If Stripe stops retrying and ends the subscription before then, the account page reads Read-only with the Subscribe buttons back, and the app goes read-only at its next check, with the Settings window reading The subscription is canceled. Subscribe again on the account page to keep culling and developing. Either way, fix the card or subscribe again, then press Refresh in the Settings window; see What read-only means.

caution

A card is entered only on Stripe's own pages, its checkout page and its card form, reached from the account page. Nothing in Vixlo, and no email from Vixlo, ever asks for a card number.
