Your Macs
One account signs in on up to three Macs at once, and the account page keeps the list. This page is for the day a fourth Mac asks, for taking an old Mac off the account, and for what a removed Mac does next.
Three at a time
Each Mac that signs in takes one of the account's three places and keeps it until that Mac signs out or is removed on the website. The place is tied to the Mac, not to a copy of the app.
The list on the account page
The Macs signed in panel on the account page lists each Mac by the name it has in macOS, with Last heard from 3 hours ago · Vixlo 0.1.0 under it (the time of the Mac's last licence check or sign-in, and the version of Vixlo it signed in with) and a Remove button. The line above the list counts the places:
- No Mac has signed in yet. Download Vixlo, then sign in with this email and password.
- 2 of 3 slots used. A new Mac can sign in now.
- 3 of 3 slots used. Sign out of one to free a slot.
When a fourth Mac tries to sign in
The sign-in card refuses and names the three: This account is already signed in on three Macs: … followed by their names, then Remove one on the account page, then try again. Nothing is stored on the fourth Mac. Free a place by either route below, then type the password again (the card empties the password field after a refusal, and Sign in waits for it) and press Sign in. If it is refused for any other reason, When you cannot sign in goes through each sentence.
Freeing a place
Two ways:
- Sign out on the Mac itself: Sign out in the Settings window's Account section, Sign out in the rail's account popover, or Vixlo ▸ Sign Out of Vixlo. The Mac signs out, forgetting its sign-in and the licence it held, and shows the sign-in card. If it can reach the website, its place is free at once; if it is offline, the place stays taken on the account page until you press Remove there.
- Remove it on the account page: press Remove beside the Mac. The page says Studio Mac signed out. Its slot is free. with that Mac's name, or Could not sign that Mac out just now. Try again in a moment., and a new Mac can sign in straight away.
Removing a Mac you still use is harmless: sign in again on it and it takes a place again.
What a removed Mac sees
A Mac removed on the website finds out at its next check. It then signs itself out and shows the sign-in card over whatever was open. Nothing on that Mac is deleted: its libraries are files, never part of the account, and they open again as soon as someone signs in.
The Mac is not told at the moment you press Remove. It carries on with the licence it holds until its next check, which it makes on its own about once a day. To make a removed Mac sign out now, press Refresh in the Settings window on that Mac.
When it does sign out, it does not say why. The sign-in card has no message, and the Settings window shows Not signed in, the usual signed-out sentence (Sign in from the window that appears when Vixlo opens, with the email and password of your Vixlo account.) and the word Signed out, with no reason, so a removed Mac looks like one that was never signed in. Why the card is back lists the reasons a Mac is signed out.
Changing your password signs out every Mac on the account. The reset page says so: Every Mac signed in to this account is signed out when the password changes, so sign in again on each. Their places are kept, so each signs straight back in with the new password.
