Deleting your account

Deleting the account removes it at once and for good, from the last panel of the account page; your libraries are not part of the account and are never touched. Read this page before you press anything.

What goes, what stays

The panel says it plainly: Deleting removes the account now, and it cannot be undone or recovered: the account and its sign-in, its Macs, your answers and any invite codes on it. Your libraries are untouched — they are files on your Mac, never part of the account, and they open again whenever Vixlo is signed in to an account. Each Mac signs out at its next licence check.

What stays: Stripe's own records of past payments, which the law requires to be kept, and the lines about the account in our staff log, which is never edited.

The Delete your account panel

A subscription that is still running

Deleting cancels a running subscription at Stripe at the same moment, and the rest of its period is not refunded. The panel adds: Your subscription is cancelled at Stripe at once, and the rest of its period is not refunded. To use Vixlo until 12 January 2027 first, cancel instead and delete later. That is the better order when you have paid for time you still want: cancel, use Vixlo to the end of the period, then delete.

A subscription already set to end is treated the same way: it is cancelled at once rather than on its date.

Deleting

  1. Type the account's password into Your password. Leave it empty and the page says Type your password: it is how we know it is you.
  2. Press Delete my account. The button reads Press again to delete everything.
  3. Press it again.

A wrong password is refused: That is not this account's password. Nothing was deleted. After five wrong tries in fifteen minutes the page says Too many tries with the wrong password. Wait fifteen minutes, then try again. If Stripe does not answer, the page says so and the account stays: Stripe did not answer just now, so nothing was deleted. Try again in a moment. If Stripe stops answering partway, after it has already cancelled the subscription, that cancellation stands but the account is not deleted: Stripe stopped answering partway: the subscription is cancelled, but the account is not deleted. Try again in a moment.

When it goes through, an email with the subject Your Vixlo account is deleted is sent to the address first, and the browser lands on the sign-up page with the notice The account is deleted. You can sign up again with the same address.

What the Mac does next

A Mac signed in to the account finds out at its next check. It finds no account, signs itself out, forgetting its sign-in and the licence it held, and shows the sign-in card over whatever was open. Every library on that Mac is exactly as it was. Sign in to an account, a new one with the same address if you like, and every library opens as before.

In Vixlo 0.1

A Mac is not told at the moment the account is deleted. It carries on with the licence it holds until its next check, which it makes on its own about once a day. To make a Mac sign out now, press Refresh in the Settings window on that Mac.

caution

There is no undo and nothing to recover. A new account with the same address is a new account: its own sign-in, its own Macs, its own answers and its own trial.

Signing up again with the same address

The address is free as soon as the deletion goes through, and signing up with it is the ordinary sign-up: Installing Vixlo has the steps. You choose a password, tick the Terms again and confirm the address from a new email, Confirm your email for Vixlo. The page says what it says to everyone: Seven days free. Your trial starts when you confirm your email, and there is no card to enter until it ends.

What the new account starts with

A fresh seven-day trial, counted from the moment you confirm the email; the email Your Vixlo trial has started names the date it runs until. The new account does not know the old one existed, so it makes no difference whether the old account was on its trial, past it, subscribed or invited. The seven-day trial says what the week includes.

In Vixlo 0.1

Nothing in Vixlo 0.1 checks a new sign-up against an address that once had an account. The new account gets its full seven days whatever the old one had used, even a trial that had already ended and left Vixlo read-only. It is only a trial: when it ends the new account is read-only like any other, and the deletion has already given up a subscription's unused time, which is not refunded, and any complimentary access. To stop paying and keep the time you have paid for, cancel instead; the account and its Macs stay.

What it does not start with

  • A subscription. A running one was cancelled at Stripe by the deletion, and the new account has no card on file. Subscribing is a new subscription, with the card entered again on Stripe's checkout page; see Subscribing and what it costs.
  • Complimentary access. It went with the account, and the code that gave it cannot be redeemed a second time: That invite code has already been used. Each one works once — ask whoever sent it for another. A new code gives the new account access of its own, and takes the trial's place.
  • Macs. All three places are free: No Mac has signed in yet. Download Vixlo, then sign in with this email and password.
  • Answers. The website asks its three questions again after you confirm.

On the Mac

Signing up again does not sign a Mac in. A Mac still signed in to the deleted account signs itself out at its next check even though an account with the same address now exists, because its sign-in belonged to the old one. Sign in on the card with the new account's email and password; the Mac takes one of the new account's three places, and its libraries open as before.

A website open by invitation only

Where the website is open by invitation only, the browser lands on its coming-soon page after a deletion, not on the sign-up page with its notice. The sign-up page then opens only from an invitation link whose code still works, and the new account starts with that code's access in place of a trial.
