Cancelling your subscription

A subscription is cancelled on the account page, in two presses, and it never ends at once: Vixlo keeps working to the end of the period you have paid for, and nothing more is charged. This page is for that button, for changing your mind, and for what the app shows in the meantime.

Cancel subscription

In the Plan panel, Cancel subscription sits beside Manage subscription. It is there only while a subscription is running and is not already set to end.

  1. Press Cancel subscription. The button reads Press again to cancel.
  2. Press it again.

The Plan panel with Cancel subscription pressed once, reading Press again to cancel

The page re-reads the account and says, in a small message, Your subscription is canceled. Vixlo keeps working until 12 January 2027, and nothing more is charged. The Plan line now reads Canceled — Vixlo keeps working until 12 January 2027, and does not renew. An email with the subject Your Vixlo subscription is canceled says the same, and that your libraries stay yours afterwards.

Nothing is refunded, because nothing is cut short: the period was paid for and runs to its end. If Stripe does not answer, the page says Stripe did not answer just now, so nothing changed. Try again in a moment.

Changing your mind

Until the date, the button reads Keep my subscription. One press undoes the cancellation: the message says Your subscription continues. It renews on 12 January 2027., the line goes back to $300 a year, renewing 12 January 2027., and an email with the subject Your Vixlo subscription continues confirms it. After the date, subscribe again any time from the same panel.

Stripe's own page

Manage subscription opens Stripe's page for your subscription, and that page can cancel it too, in Stripe's own words. The account page's Cancel subscription is the one described above: it sets the subscription to end when the period you paid for ends, and nothing more is charged. To be sure of that, use it rather than cancelling on Stripe's page.

What the Mac shows

Nothing changes on the Mac when you cancel, and nothing changes on the date itself until the Mac next checks. The licence it holds is good for thirty days past the end of the paid period, so the Mac does not stop by itself at the date. At its first check after the period has ended, which it makes on its own about once a day or at once on Refresh, the app goes read-only: the lock notice under the title bar (and, on the launch screen, the Read-only chip), and in the Settings window The subscription is canceled. Subscribe again on the account page to keep culling and developing. A Mac that stays offline carries on with the licence it holds until thirty days past the end of the period, then goes read-only too, with the Settings window reading The licence could not be renewed. Sign in again, or check the subscription on the account page. Every library still opens, and Export and Hand off still write files; see What read-only means.

In Vixlo 0.1

The app is not told that a subscription will not renew. After you cancel, the Account section in the Settings window still reads Subscribed, renews 12 Jan 2027., and it goes on reading that after the date has passed, until the Mac's first check after the period has ended. Refresh does not change the line before then. Read the cancellation on the account page, whose Plan line says Canceled — Vixlo keeps working until 12 January 2027, and does not renew.

tip

Cancelling is not deleting. The account, its sign-in and its Macs stay, and subscribing again later picks up the same account. To remove the account itself, see Deleting your account, and read its note on a subscription that is still running first.
