Earlier libraries that will not open or develop

Every Mac lists three rows on the launch screen, Earlier library · event, Earlier library · personal and Earlier library · studio, left over from an older shape of the app. This page is for the two things that go wrong with them: a row that reads Not found and will not open, and a row that opens and will not keep an adjustment. The launch screen says what the rows are.

Not found on a Mac with no library of its own

These three rows stay in the list, whether or not their folder exists, until every photograph in one has been imported. Their folder, Application Support/Vixlo7 in your Library, is made when the first library is added to Vixlo's list. So on a Mac that has not made a library of its own yet, each of the three reads Not found — its folder may have moved or been deleted, with a disabled Unavailable button.

In Vixlo 0.1

Nothing has moved and nothing needs reconnecting, but the rows cannot be opened until you have made a library of your own. Make your first library (Creating a library), return to the launch screen with File ▸ Close Library (⇧⌘W), and the rows open. If one still reads Not found, quit and reopen Vixlo.

A library of your own that reads Not found or Not connected is a different case: see A library that will not open.

This library can't store adjustments

The photographs of these three libraries are bundled inside the app itself and were never imported into a library folder, so there is nowhere beside them Vixlo may write. You can cull them — Take, Hold, Reject, rate, label — but the develop panel and the edit page show a notice. Its title reads This library can't store adjustments, and the line under it reads Its photographs were never imported into a library, so there is nowhere beside them Vixlo may write. Import them and everything here will stick.

The develop panel's notice on an Earlier library, This library can't store adjustments.

In the develop panel the notice sits above the tools, which stay on screen, dimmed and locked; on the edit page it sits under the top panel, and a change made there is refused with a message rather than quietly lost. Some changes show a success message there all the same: When edits cannot be stored lists them, and what still works.

Developing their photographs

To develop these photographs, press Import this library… on the library's row. It asks where the new library should live, copies every photograph into it through the same verified copy an import from a card uses, and carries your decisions, ratings, favourites, labels and any existing adjustments across. Once every photograph has copied cleanly the earlier row retires itself. Importing an Earlier library walks it from the button to the sheet that reports the result.
