Vixlo 0.1

Text size

Text size, under Appearance, sets how big the words are everywhere in Vixlo: the launch screen, the header, the side panel, the strip under the photograph, the sheets, the messages and the edit page. Reach for it when the app reads small on a big display, or when you have already made text larger across your Mac and want Vixlo to match.

The three steps

Three chips sit in a row, and each one draws Aa at the size it would set, so you can compare them before anything changes:

ChipWhat it is
DefaultThe size Vixlo has always drawn. The design's own numbers.
LargerA step up, for a large display at arm's length. Every size times 1.15.
LargestThe biggest Vixlo draws. Crowded rows shed a word sooner. Every size times 1.3.

Those sentences are the chips' own tooltips. Click a chip and every word in every window moves at once, while you watch; nothing needs a relaunch, and the sentence under the row's title changes to the chosen step's own.

It is three steps rather than a slider on purpose: each step is a size that was checked across the whole app, and a slider would offer positions in between that nobody could tell apart.

Following the Mac

Until you choose a step, Vixlo follows your Mac. If you have raised Text size in System Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Display, Vixlo opens at Larger or Largest to match, and the row says so: Following this Mac's text size (System Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Display), which Vixlo reads as Larger. Choose a size to decide for yourself. The Mac's smaller increases read as Larger and its bigger ones as Largest. Move the Mac's slider while Vixlo is open and Vixlo moves with it.

Choose a step and that ends the following: from then on Vixlo draws at your choice whatever the Mac says, and that includes choosing Default — a Default you chose and a Vixlo you never touched are different states, and only the second follows the Mac. There is no fourth chip to go back to following; the three chips always show which size is in force.

What changes and what does not

Everything Vixlo draws itself scales together, through one place, so the proportions stay as designed. Your Mac's own menus, alerts and open/save dialogs keep the Mac's face and size; those are not Vixlo's to restyle.

The one place you may notice the bigger sizes doing something is the two lines under the photograph on the cull page. They measure their own words as they draw them, so at Largest the pass chips drop their captions a little sooner on a narrow window. That is them doing their job.

tip

The Settings window itself follows the step too, so you see the change on this page as you make it, not only in the library window behind.
