Creator and Copyright
Exported files holds two lines, Creator and Copyright, and whatever you put there goes into every file you export, beside the camera, lens and capture data carried over from the original. Fill them in once, before the first delivery that needs your name on it.
The two fields
The card is headed Credit, and its line says what it does: Written into every file you export, alongside the camera, lens and capture data carried over from the original. Leave a line blank and nothing is written.
- Creator — your name, as it should appear as the author of the photograph. The field's placeholder reads Your name.
- Copyright — the copyright line. The placeholder shows the shape: © 2026 Your Name.
Both save as you type. There is no Save button and nothing to commit, because a name is not a secret: a name that only reached the file if you remembered to press a button would be the name missing from the one delivery that needed it.
What is written
Each line lands in the two places a client's editor, a lab's intake, a stock site and a search tool all read:
| Field | Written as |
|---|---|
| Creator | EXIF Artist and XMP dc:creator |
| Copyright | EXIF Copyright and XMP dc:rights |
A line you set replaces whatever the camera put in that field. An in-body copyright is usually a default typed once years ago; the line that matters on a delivery is the current one.
When a line is blank
Both fields start blank, showing only their placeholders. A blank line writes nothing for its field: whatever the camera put there, if anything, is left as it was. A line you have filled is still written when the other is blank. Only with both blank is the file exactly the one Vixlo would have produced before these fields existed.
Vixlo does not guess a name from your Mac's user account, because a Mac named for a shared machine, or for whoever set it up, would put a stranger's name on a delivered photograph.
When it is read
The lines are read at the moment an export starts, so changing them while an export is running does not change files already written. Changing them later does not make an earlier export stale either: Vixlo will not re-render a shoot because the copyright line moved, and files you have already delivered keep the line they were exported with. To put a new line on old files, export them again.
