What comes back when you reopen a library
Close a library and open it again, tomorrow or in a month, and it is where you left it. This page lists what comes back, what does not, and what Vixlo does when part of a saved pass no longer makes sense. You need it when a library opens on something you did not expect.
What comes back
A library comes back as you left it:
- The pass you were walking, in its order, with the frame you were on, and every chip that narrowed it back on the views line — a person, a place, a star rating or Favourite, a search by its text or its saved name.
- How the page was arranged: the grouping, the sort, whether the contact sheet is in sections, which side-panel pane was open and how wide it was, the size of the strip's cells and of the Frames rows, and whether the pass was showing Single or Compare (
CorEscshows Single again). Each is remembered with the library, not with the app, so two libraries can be set up differently.
The three Earlier library rows are the exception. They share one folder and so one remembered arrangement: the chips and the page of whichever of them you closed last are what the next one opens with. If those include a chip the next library cannot rebuild — a person who is not in it, say — the rule at the foot of this page applies.
What does not
A colour label is not remembered. It was this sitting's choice, not a fact about the library, so the label menu starts clear on every reopen. The pass it made is another matter; see the caution below.
Close a library while a colour label is narrowing the pass and it reopens on that pass: only the frames with that label, in their order, and no colour chip to say so. The label is put down; the pass it made is not. To build the pass again from the chips showing, click the state chip that is lit on the views line — All, Undecided, Takes, Holds or Rejects — and every other chip stays as it is. Clicking All works too, but it also puts down a narrowing to Undecided, Takes, Holds or Rejects. Or put the label down with the × on its chip before you close.
Two settings are not kept with the library either: every library opens with the session gap at 45 minutes and the bin rule at ask when finalising, whatever you chose last time.
When a chip cannot be rebuilt
If a chip can no longer be rebuilt — the saved search was deleted, the person forgotten, the place's frames gone — Vixlo restores no pass at all rather than a wrong one. The views line reads All over the whole library, and a short message near the foot of the page says which chip went; The pass holds still lists its words.
