The ⋯ menu
The ⋯ button, at the right-hand end of the views line, holds what is not culling: moving to another library, the frame's label, favourite and note, auto-advance, full screen, the keys to read, Export and Share, the bin rule and a dialog of photo credits. Each row is a second door to something covered elsewhere in the guide, except Photo sources…, which this page explains.
The rows
Hairlines divide the rows into four runs. The three rows about the frame in front of you, Colour label…, Favourite and A note on this decision…, are left out when the library has no photograph in it.
In an empty pass of a library that has photographs, those three rows stay in the menu and act on the library's first photograph, which Single shows although it is not in the pass (When a pass is empty).
| Row | What it does | Where it is covered |
|---|---|---|
| Library… | Every library this Mac knows, Scan a card or folder…, and All libraries… (the launch screen). Scan a card or folder… asks for a card or folder and opens a review. Start import (n) carries the number of files the import covers: the files it copies in and, once a backup is chosen, the files the library already holds, which it copies to the backup. It then copies the photographs into this library and checks each copy. File ▸ Scan Source… (⌘O) and File ▸ Import… do the same | Opening, switching and closing, Adding a card to a library you already have |
| Colour label… | Sets one of the five labels on this frame | Stars, favourites and colour labels |
| Favourite | Ticked when this frame is one | The same page |
| A note on this decision… | The note card (N) | A note on a decision |
| Auto-advance | Ticked while it is on (A) | Auto-advance |
| Full screen | The photograph filling the screen (Space) | Full screen |
| Keyboard shortcuts… | The keys, to read (?) | Reading your keys |
| Export… | Writes real image files | Export |
| Share… | A 2048px review collection and a manifest | Share review |
| Bin rule… | What emptying the bin means in this library. The row ends with the rule in force: kept until I empty it, ask when finalising or empty on finalise | Library rules |
| Photo sources… | The credits for the demonstration photographs that ship with the app | Below |
Photo sources
Photo sources… opens a dialog headed Photo sources. It does not say where your photographs came from. It is the credit for the demonstration photographs that ship with Vixlo, under this sentence: Demo photographs ship with the app so there is something real to cull before you connect a card. Every one is credited to its photographer below. Below it is a scrolling list with one row for each session in the pass on screen, so a narrowed pass lists fewer: a thumbnail, the session's name and, under the name, Photo by and the photographer of that session's first photograph. An arrow at the end of a row opens that photograph's page, on Unsplash or Pexels, in your browser. Close is the only button.
The credits exist only for the demonstration photographs, which are the photographs of the three Earlier library rows on the launch screen (Three Earlier libraries).
The dialog says every demonstration photograph is credited below, but a row credits only one, the first of its session. Earlier library · event and Earlier library · studio are each a single session, because all their photographs carry one capture time, so the dialog shows one row for the whole library. Earlier library · personal spans three dates and shows three rows. The event and personal photographs are credited as Photo by Unsplash contributor; the studio photographs are by several photographers, and only the first photograph's photographer is named.
In a library of your own photographs there are no credits to show. The dialog opens with the same sentence, then lists your sessions with Demo photograph under each name. That label is wrong for your photographs, and nothing has been done to them. Where your photographs came from is said elsewhere: by the line under the pane in the side panel, such as Photographs copied in (The cull page), by the line under Single's photograph, which names the day, the camera and the card or folder (Single and Frames), and by New or Previously imported in the header.
The same label appears on an Earlier library while its pass is empty, with no thumbnail on the rows, because there is no photograph in the pass to take a credit from.
