Reject and the bin

Reject takes a frame out of the queue and puts it in the bin. It does not touch the file: the photograph stays exactly where it is in the library, and nothing is deleted until you empty the bin yourself. This page covers looking at the bin, bringing frames back and Empty bin….

Looking at the bin

Click Rejects on the views line and the pass becomes the bin. A frame you reject stays in the pass you are walking, drawn faint in the strip and in Frames, until the pass is built again (The pass holds still); the bin is where it waits.

When the bin holds something, the pass line gains the bin's own count and, when Vixlo can measure the files, their size — 180 frames · 1.2 GB — then Restore all and Empty bin…. With an empty bin none of the three is drawn, because Rejects is then an empty pass (When a pass is empty).

Bringing frames back

To bring one frame back, press U on it, or give it any other decision. Restore all puts every frame in the bin back to Undecided, which one ⌘Z takes back.

Emptying the bin

caution

Empty bin… is the only action in Vixlo that deletes a photograph. It asks first, naming the exact count and size, and it only ever deletes a library's own copies, inside the library's own folder — never a photograph on your card. The one action that deletes a photograph covers the guarantees behind this.

In Vixlo 0.1

In the three Earlier library rows on the launch screen, Empty bin… deletes nothing. Those libraries have no folder of their own for Vixlo to check a file against, so it refuses every frame in the bin: the pass line shows the bin's count without a size, and the sheet reads Nothing in the bin can be deleted right now. with Empty bin dimmed. Keep them closes it. In a library of your own, Empty bin… works as described (Three Earlier libraries).

In Vixlo 0.1

Vixlo does not remember, from one opening of a library to the next, which frames Empty bin… has already deleted. Quit and reopen, and every frame you emptied is back in Rejects and in the bin's count, with its file gone. Empty bin… has nothing to delete for them: a bin holding only those frames reads Nothing in the bin can be deleted right now. Leave them as Rejects. Do not use Restore all, and do not press U, T or H on one of them: that puts a frame whose file no longer exists back in the pass, as Undecided or as a take or a hold, with nothing behind it. The one action that deletes a photograph says how to clear them.

Each library also shows a bin rule under ⋯ ▸ Bin rule….

In Vixlo 0.1

The bin rule is shown but not acted on. Whichever rule is chosen, nothing empties the bin except Empty bin… itself, and the Hand off dialog's line Vixlo will ask whether to empty the bin before handing off describes a step this version does not take (Library rules).

Importing the card again

Emptying the bin does not touch your card, and Vixlo does not forget the frame. Scan the same card into this library again, for instance to give its frames a second copy on a backup, and the review counts the frame you emptied as NEW, because its copy in the library is gone. The import copies it back into the library under the name it had, and Continue to culling points the frame's old entry at the new copy. It is the same frame, not a second one, with the decision it had: a Reject, in Rejects again. Empty bin… deletes that copy too, the next time you use it. Adding a card to a library you already have covers scanning a card into a library.
