Vixlo 0.1

Vixlo user guide

This guide shows you how to use Vixlo on your Mac: bringing a shoot in, deciding on every frame in the pass, developing your takes and handing them off. Read it beside the app a section at a time, or come straight to the page for the one thing you are stuck on.

The version you are reading

Each version of this guide describes one version of the app, and only what that version does. The switcher at the top of the page names the version you are reading, for example Vixlo 0.1.

To see which version you have, open Vixlo and choose Vixlo ▸ About Vixlo in the menu bar. The first two numbers of the version it shows are the guide's version: an app at 0.1.0 or 0.1.2 uses the guide for Vixlo 0.1. If the switcher names a different version, choose yours from it; you stay on the same page where that version has one.

Next is the guide for the version after the newest release. It can describe things your app does not have yet.

Finding a page

  • The sidebar lists every section in the order you meet them in the app. Open a section to see its pages.
  • Search is the box at the top of the page; press ⌘K to go straight to it. It searches the version you are reading.
  • On a phone, the sections and the switcher are in the menu at the top left.

The sections

  1. Getting started — installing the app, the first launch and signing in, creating a library, and importing your first shoot from a card or a folder.
  2. Your library — the launch screen, sessions, opening and switching libraries, and what a library is on disk.
  3. The pass — Single and Frames, the strip and the track, Take, Hold, Reject and Undecided, zooming and the loupe.
  4. Organising a shoot — Groups, queues, filters and search.
  5. People — the faces in a shoot, naming a person, and finding everyone's frames.
  6. Proposals — the assisted cull: what a proposal is, and how to accept or ignore one.
  7. The edit page — opening a take in Edit, the canvas, before and after, and looks.
  8. Tools, one by one — every develop tool in the panel, in the panel's order.
  9. Export and hand off — Export, Hand off to another editor, and Share review.
  10. Keys — the key presets, the keys sheet, and every shortcut.
  11. Settings — every setting, and where it is kept.
  12. Your account and subscription — the trial, subscribing, your Macs, invite codes, cancelling, and deleting your account.
  13. What Vixlo never does — the promises the app keeps about your photographs and your Mac.
  14. Troubleshooting — what to do when something does not work, and how to reach us.
